Celebrating Women's Empowerment at ASU: Gender Equality Under the Law & 2021 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge Launch
No country in the world has achieved full gender equality. According to the World Bank, in 2020 only 10 countries even mandated gender equality under the law. This makes no economic sense as gender discrimination is costly for everyone. McKinsey estimates as much as $28 trillion dollars could be added to the global economy if there were a level playing field. At current rates of progress, it will take 257 years to reach economic equality. Join us on International Women’s Day, for the first event of the series. We will launch the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2021 and examine the barriers women still face with World Bank Women, Business and the Law. To learn how ASU is combating these challenges by partnering with global organizations on SDG5 initiatives, join us to hear from Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General, Martin Chungong, ASU’s Inaugural SDG5 Male Champion for Change.
