Those Other Elements: Nitrogen and Carbon Interactions with Phosphorus
The phosphorus cycle is complex on its own, but even more so when we consider how it interacts with other chemical cycles in nature and with the biological requirements of living things. For example, all organisms require C, N, and P to build their biomass but in different balanced proportions according to their lifestyles. However, the supplies of these elements are becoming more and more imbalanced at different scales and at different rates due to human actions (e.g. CO2 emissions, atmospheric N deposition, losses of P from fertilizers). Three world experts on C:N:P balances and nutrient limitation will illuminate us on the many ways that P interacts with C and N and how we might mitigate such imbalances to maintain biodiversity and ecosystem health.

This webinar will explore such interactions and their ecological impacts with a set of internationally recognized experts on the topic. Please join us to hear presentations by and discussions with Dr. Elizabeth Borer of University of Minnesota, Dr. Josep Peñuelas of the University of Barcelona, and our own Director, Dr. Jim Elser of the University of Montana. As usual, we will have time for questions from the audience.
