Women, especially women of color, have been forced out the workforce at a frightening pace. Truly shameful.

LOVE this - address workforce equity!!

The funding disparity and workforce equity go hand in hand.

A focused pathway for paraprofessionals is a great way to grow the workforce in a sustainable way. Really love this.

I'm grateful that the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Program includes equity standards and monitors for this.

That is a huge issue here in MN. Our EC educator who are bi-lingual are not given the jobs or the pay they deserve as they work as lead teachers. And then they are not taken seriously by our school admins.

Racial equity must be tied to funding streams to ensure the practice is being inplemented

Can you give us some examples of what equity indicators articulated in quality standards might look like? This is a big one that I think needs to happen…

^^^ So much this, Suzanne. Many teachers have been removed from their current positions as assistant staff, siphoned off to work in school run essential child care, leaving no bilingual staff to serve multilingual families in their own programs. Meanwhile, white (monolingual English-only) licensed teachers are getting full pay, working safely from home.

Yes!!!! QRIS must systematically across the country hold up strong indicators of equity!!

Funding has to be tied to mandates

It's really important that those who are selecting and selected to create equity training are thinking from a lens that goes beyond surface equity jargon and instead demonstrates competency around the tenants of equity/racial equity that actually yield equitable outcomes for kids and disrupt inequitable harmful norms and practices. Very few in the field are doing this well.

How many of your programs are NAEYC accredited? I am the Accreditation Chair for my state for our board, and I'm finding less and less programs are becoming accredited.

Only 1 of our 20 programs is NAEYC accredited; funded by the federal government so it's required. Our state quality systems use ratings of 1 to 5 stars. Highly rated programs receive reimbursement from the state that equals the reimbursement associated with NAEYC accreditation.

All of our programs have 5 stars in both state (Ohio and Kentucky) quality rating systems. Many of the quality criteria for 5 stars are identical to NAEYC accreditation.

I 100% agree with everything stated but I worry that we will continue to be underfunded. I look at how little our legislators are willing to support us now and how quickly services for young children cut from budgets as if it is a fluff item - which is certainly is not!
