ASU Prep Digital Grades 9-12 Parent/Guardian Orientation - Shared screen with speaker view
@Robert - We don't yet have the final numbers, but your LSC can answer that question more precisely.
Yes, the link to the recording will be sent out later today and added to the important links page.
Yes...the video will be e-mailed to the address on file.
is the new student ore
is the new student orientation at a set time?
@David, I believe New Student Orientation is all week
It is not necessary for the student to have a cell phone. We can use alternative means to communicate.
The NSO lasts one week, and can be worked on whatever times the student wishes.
but is it a set time or can the student log in any time and watch a video?
ok thank you
Student Mentors (like me) basically assist LSCs in corresponding with students and developing a plan for their success.
@Kristin-You will be contacted by the LSC at latest next week.
@Stacey Johnson the meeting is being recorded and will be sent out
@Anne parents log attendance from their Infinite Campus account
@PM - The NSO covers topics your student will need to be successful. This will give students a chance to interact.
Are there still two start dates or has it been switched to just the 17th?
There are still 2 start dates.
@TJ - I have found Chrome to work well.
@TJ I think Chrome is the recommended browser, but all will work
@Cindy - There is one live lesson per day, but the other time can be flexible.
AP students may be able to enroll in Honors classes or our Concurrent Classes— you can talk more about this with your LSC
@Ashleigh One live lesson, per week, per course
One live lesson per day for New Student Orientation week. Once the courses start, there will be one Live Lesson per week per course.
We will send out the recording of this session.
@Candida - Yes, the recording will be emailed out
The live lessons for NSO last about an hour.
@Jodi - Yes, teachers will email reminders when it is time to schedule a DBA!
@All Panelists— remember to select to send to panelists AND Attendees; attendees are not getting your responses
Jodi, AP requires a test to get college credit. Concurrent Courses are ACTUAL ASU courses that college students are attending as well.
That is correct Alexia
what about FT out of state?
2 Concurrent Classes are free for full-time ASU Prep Digital students. For part-time student, they are $600 each
Yes, Concurrent courses are weighted like honors
Your LSC will reach out soon to talk about their course plan.
No, only in-state (Arizona) students have to log attendance
Saturdays and Sundays are counted, yes, and you can enter more if your student works ahead
LMAO yes, not very complicated— just required by the state!
can the placement test for Math and English be taken this weekend? we have already scheduled a time with the LSC
Not necessarily— Chromebooks sometimes have problems with some software though
Jodi, are you talking about placement for Concurrent Courses?
yes and are all concurrent classes still available or are some full?
Here are the technical requirements, Sarah: https://www.asuprepdigital.org/resources/
I signed up for my daughter to start on the 5th and I still haven't heard from anyone about her class schedule. Who should I reach out to?
It depends if you’re taking concurrent courses or not— RP Now is common for Concurrent courses. Zoom is also used often, and Annotation cannot be used on Chromebooks.
I use a Macbook Air and haven’t had any problems!
Kraus, we don’t have a start date on the 5th. Just the 10th and the 17th.
RP now definitely does not work on chrome book
Ok thanks. I'm not sure why I have the 5th written down.
RP Now is a proctoring service used for exams in ASU courses.
It does not work on Chromebook, so you will need a laptop for it
Most computers work— it’s not anything fancy. Chromebooks tend to be the only computers with problems with some software.
AZURITE is for concurrent (college) courses
This part is for our high school courses
Infinite Campus is how you get to Canvas. So you would log in to Infinite Campus first, and then launch Canvas from there.
I also wanted her to be eligible for the concurrent classes, but we haven't heard about any of the placement tests. I did get an email about her being given and ASUid, but it was only a message with no links or other information.
Actually, you login to Canvas through Clever. You will login to Clever with your ASUPD Gmail account.
Yes, you must take a placement test for ENG 101. You can use the SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer.
Accuplacer is an English placement test using an essay. It is proctored and hosted by CollegeBoard. More info here: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/
No, as long as they’ve received a good enough score on the SAT or ACT
For ENG 101, minimum ACT score is 19, minimum SAT score is 520
@Kristin - Reach out to the LSC to assist with the scores submissions
@Robert live lessons start at 8am AZ time, if students can't make it, the lessons recorded and posted on class home pages
@Robert - The live lesson times will be set at the beginning of the course and will vary depending upon the instructor.
Yes, see supply lists here: https://www.asuprepdigital.org/resources/
Here is the school supplies list: https://www.asuprepdigital.org/resources/
The high school list will be posted soon
Yes, Parent Portal is Infinite Campus.
Students complete assignments in Canvas.
I don't think Canvas is ready to be accessed yet, but will be soon
Do we as parents have a log n separate for Canvas?
@Andrea- She can access the recording on the course home page.
Do concurrent courses also have a DBA?
Yes, Andrea, she will be able to communicate this with her teacher and can watch the live lesson recording
AZURITE is for concurrent courses only
There is not a supply list for high school, Terry.
The high school supplies list will be posted soon
Not as of yet, Stephanie
I saw this question asked, but don't remember hearing an answer: Do concurrent courses also have a DBA?
That's what I thought - thank you!
How different are these courses, and the LSC / teacher interaction than your current summer classes?
Thank you all!
@Cindy it does look like there is an Infinite Campus app. I don't have experience with it, so I'm not sure how good it is.
When is the latest a student can join a course after it started?
@Stacey NSO covers general info about the school and how to be successful, and should take about 5 days to complete. There is a 1-hour a day Live Lesson component to NSO. The rest of the course work can be completed at any pace throughout the week.
@Mark your LSC will work with you to access those course options
Your LSC will be in touch soon to confirm your start date
That is the url for the important information.
Thank you for your help and information!
